Augmented Reality (AR) is a powerful tool that can be used to provide limitless visual support in any context of reality. This project, titled Projectar, aims to bridge the gap between print and digital media by serving as a ‘one-stop’ AR video platform app for all print media. Its function is to superimpose video on still images found in newspapers and magazines, with the purpose of enhancing readers’ informational retention experience and promoting digital alternatives. The research aspect of the project investigates effective methods of AR implementation and the enhancement of usability.
ProjectAR App
The Projectar app is an Augmented Reality portal that caters to all physical news and magazine publications. It has a simple and intuitive user interface that does not require high technical literacy. Users can simply launch the app, search for the newspaper or magazine issue that they physically own, and a camera instantly launches, prompting them to aim at an image. Upon detecting the image, the app retrieves a video to overlay or augment (overlay) onto the paper via the smartphone screen.
